Hello, Mousers!

Jennifer keeps telling me that I have to work against detail creep but sometimes it is unavoidable. Take the comic I am drawing for today, for example. It would simply not work if there was a small amount of cutlery, pans and so forth flying through the air, so I have to draw a lot of it.

I think there must therefore be two kinds of detail: the good detail, which is necessary for the correct telling of the story, and the extra detail that is good only when you have the time to put that much effort into the artwork. When drawing three daily comics, this extra amount of detail is simply not always possible.

Nevertheless, it was necessary today so I am putting in the effort. Expect the comic to be up in a few hours as a result but to slake your thirsts for adventure right now you can see the sketch by clicking on the small image below. Enjoy!

Hello Mousers!

Happy new year to all of you. As a celebration of the new year and the fourteenth anniversary of The Life of Nob T. Mouse, I promised to bring you The Wandering Years. If you have been reading the blog before now, you will know that I said these would be coming out as a 24-page comic published at the end of each month. As it stands, that seems like a long time to wait for each update.

I have therefore decided that each 24-page comic will instead be released a page a day, Monday to Friday, with 24 updates per month. This will ensure that we have all the episodes online by the end of the year, which is great from my point of view because it means we’ll be finishing around the time of the fifteenth anniversary.

Sorry about the delay in getting the comic up.  Sometimes the dreaded lurgy strikes when it’s least inconvenient.  Still, at least we managed to maintain getting the comic up on the right day, even if we missed the target hour.

Sorry, everyone.  We had a strip buffer but real life ate it, and now I’ve been working hard to get back on track but, unfortunately, real life eats all my efforts.  I’m weighed under by real life work pressures right now.  I’ll get back on track but at the moment I’m sorry to say we’ve got delays.

I promised to create some wallpapers available through donations of any amount a while back, and the first one is finally here.  It’s a parody of the Descent of Man image that will be so familiar to many of you, and I hope you like it.  It’s also the first time you’ll be able to see the new, improved, textured Nob Mouse.  Again, I hope you like it.

Page one of 'The Masked Man' from the forthcoming graphic novel, 'The Collected Life of Nob T. Mouse'.

I’m currently working on the layout of all the Series Three stories for The Collected Life of Nob T. Mouse, the forthcoming Nob Mouse graphic novel.  The idea is to make these more presentable, where possible, by rendering them as Series Two stories.

This won’t always be possible, of course, because some of them run only to three panels and where that happens I’ll work something else out, but for many of the stories will work well in this new form and it certainly makes the book look better, I must say.

The graphic novel will be out sometime in the middle of the year, if current projections work out.  I’ve not got a price worked out yet but I’ll keep it as low as possible because I want everyone to have a chance to own this thing.

The new look of the Series One stories is pretty good, too.  Once Nob & The Pies has been finished in the new style I’ll post that as an extra, or possibly add it into the comic series somewhere so you can all see how the book will look.  All the Series One stories are being re-drawn to add to their readability, because if I don’t do this the first X number of pages of the book will, quite simply, suck.  Series One was not designed for book viewing, after all.

More news as I get it.

I’m sorry but the next installment of Revenge of the Nasties will be delayed until tomorrow (Tuesday 31st March) due to workload.  I don’t like falling behind but sometimes it has to happen because my coursework gets on top of me.

I’m sorry to say that a lot of my time is being taken up by a combination of degree work and my forthcoming civil partnership.  As a result, today’s comic is delayed again and I may have to drop down to comics once a week for the next week or two while I get the wedding arrangements sorted.  I’m marrying my long-time girlfriend, Jennifer Kirk, on 15 March and the last few bits and pieces to be arranged (including me making some decorations for the top of our cake based on the characters from All over the house) are taking up a lot of my time.  The rest of my time is being taken up by my law course.  I’m currently studying two courses because the start and end dates overlap, so there’s a lot of work to be done.
